Post subject: Mailing List Managers
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I'd love to hear from anyone who has used two or more of the following
three mailing list managers (MLM). Apart from any comparative comments
you might make, I'd be delighted if you would quickly rate them against
the handful of tasks and features I've listed below. Feel free to add
to the list of MLMs if you want but I'd prefer responses that still
include at least two of the three that I've listed. It's for a
non-profit org with intersecting one and two way lists ranging from 5 -
500 people each. Thanks, Andy.

Dada Mail (formerly Mojo Mail)

The e-mail address is real but I probably won't check it. Remove foil to use.

Since no one else has responded, will you settle (for now) for
someone who has used only one of them? Well, two of them, but the
second one was just experimenting.

: Mailman
: ezmlm
: Dada Mail (formerly Mojo Mail)

I've used Dada Mail. I first used it when it was Mojo Mail and I
didn't know what Perl was. It was the first Perl script I used, and I
got it to work with help from tech support. Anyone who knows Perl
could walk through it.

The list admin is easy. The lists were double opt-in, and I heard
about difficulties from only a few subscribers (most of whom probably
weren't very computer literate). You have the option to add an email
address yourself if someone can't manage the opt-in procedure. I
haven't used it much in the past year or so, so I can't remember a
lot. What I do remember are several grammar/spelling mistakes in the
default messages. But you can override them, so it isn't a problem.
(Change them for the first list and then use that version for the
other lists to save you from changing the messages for each list.)
Also it took me a bit of time to figure out what default message was
for what.

I tried Mailman once. I'd set up a test list via the control panel,
and when I came back to it later, I didn't remember the admin
password. I couldn't find any way for me to retrieve it. Fortunately
it was only a test list. Other people have said they like it, though,
so maybe I just overlooked something.

I'm interested in reading other comments too.

You might find more info in the group archives. You can see survey
results at http://www.wilsonweb.com/ebooks/email-survey.htm , but
they aren't that useful because nothing stands out.
