i am noticing a lot more hits from MSN searches these days in my
webstats. Also my sites seem to be getting heavily indexed by the
msnbot daily. I checked it out and most of my keywords searches give
similar results to google for my website. In a few months I don't see
what competitive advantage google will have over MSN, or any other
search engine. They all seem to be getting better and google will just
be another player. I think I should go and short-sell some google stock!

* Google News searches far more sources than MSN's equivalent.
* Google Groups
* Google Gulp <http://www.google.com/googlegulp/>

Add to that the fact that all MSN's recent improvements have simply been
copying Google, so it is likely that Google's users will get any future
advances in search technology months or years before MSN's users.

Stuff Google is currently working on includes:

* Google Scholar <http://scholar.google.com/>
* Google Video <http://video.google.com/>
* Google Maps <http://maps.google.com/>

About the only thing MSN Search includes than Google doesn't is its
"Encyclopedia" (which they manage to spell the American way even in the UK
edition) search, however Google does provide a link through to dictionary,
thesaurus and wikipedia entries for every search term. (Top right.) These
tend to be a lot more detailed than Encarta.

I have noticed the very same thing.

I see that Internet Explorer defaults to MSN, which must account for a
lot of it.

Since I moved my "playground" site to a new ISP 4 weeks ago
( http://hem.bredband.net/arnel/ ), I still see Google pointing all
searches to the old site with my previous ISP where it still is up,
but not updated.

Recently I find MSN Search as referer to the URL at my new ISP. MSN
was a very rare referer to the old URL. So I'll guess MSN was faster
to find my new URL. Still waiting for Google to find it Smile

You didnt set up 301 redirects? If not Google sees your site on the new ISP
as a new site and may never list it...If you had set up a 301 it would have
found it by now.

Get a link to it from a site already in the index that is regularly
spidered.

As I said, it's my "playground" site (for fun and for testing things)
so i'm not worred about it. No need for redirects (have no access to
the old page either any more) an no need for PR either Smile

And this is one of my tests, I want to see how long it takes to get
listed for a new site with non or very little "help". It took about
three months for the same site on my old ISP server. My participation
in this thread was only to the fact that MSN was able to find it
faster than Google this time, and that was a suprise Smile

Talking about PR, I don't give much for that when it comes to sites
with content in other languages than English. Especially for a small
language as Swedish (that only about aprox 10 - 12 million people
understand) there is no chance to get high PR.

I understand that e.g. sites for English speaking peoples don't have
much to offer their English speaking visitors by linking to a site
with content only in a language they don't understand Smile
