My IIS won't serve up a one-word HTML file (index.html) as configured
out of the box. Do I have to manually add .html and .htm to the MIME
Types in order for IIS to serve up these static pages?

If not then why do I always get the 'operation timed out when trying to
contact mysite.com' message for this simple one-word page?

I have just the default settings, installed out of the box on a brand
new Windows Server 2003 machine. I can do www.mysite.com/index.html
from the same box and it works, but from outside it always times out.

I hope my experience with IIS is not going to be this painful in the
future.

Hello,

Nothing seems to be wrong with IIS if you can access the website from the
local machine. My guess is that your ISP blocks port 80, so when you try
to access the website, you cannot reach it.

Another possibility is that DNS is not correct configured. Have you tried
to access the website by using the external IP?
