Post subject: Lost my virtual directory when I created a subweb...
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I installed Frontpage server extensions so that I could create an InterDev project and connect to my web project from InterDev. At some point I converted my Virtual Directory into a Subweb. Then I noticed I could no longer manage the subweb from the IIS Manager. So I then Merged my Subweb back into my Default Web Site. It still does not show up in the IIS Manager. I can however view the web pages via Internet Explorer. I then tried to create a new Virtual Directory under the Default Web Site using the same name as the one that I lost and was told that the name already existed. Yet it does not show up in the IIS Manager!

How do I manage my lost virtual directory? I can't even delete it to start over.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated,
bburns

I had to re-install IIS in order to create the virtual directory again.

I then created a test virtual directory and installed the Frontpage extensions on it so that I could point to it from MS InterDev. I was not able to point to it from InterDev until I made it a subweb. Again, once I did that I could no longer manage it from IIS. It just disappeared from the list of virtual directories in IIS Manager. Even though I installed the Frontpage extensions on the test virtual directory it was still not seen by InterDev project setup. It wasn't until I converted it to a subweb that InterDev could see it in order to add it to the project. So now I am kind of screwed because I want to be able to run the ASP pages in debug mode from InterDev but I don't want to lose the IIS Managing ability.

Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

Thanks,
bburns

ok I figured out the exact process that causes me to lose virtual directory/subweb in IIS Manager.

Create new Virtual Directory.
Select All Tasks on the Virtual Directory and choose Configure Server Extensions 2002.
Whe you do this it asks you to create a new SubWeb from the Virtual Directory.
This installs the Frontpage extensions for that Virtual Directory.
Now you can create an InterDev project that points to the newly created Web Application/SubWeb.
After project is created synchronize files.
Close InterDev.
Open IIS Manager.
The Virtual Directory is no longer listed.
The only way to manage this SubWeb is through "FrontPage Server Extensions 2002
Site Administration". Which does not give you the depth of Administration that IIS Manager does.

Wish I could find a way around this problem.
