Post subject: Log Files
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,

I am currently administering an IIS 6 webserver but the log files do not
seem to be generating. To be more precise, they seem to stop for some reason
more often than not about 1.30 AM, once in a while it would be later on in
the day, and, when I am lucky, it will generate the whole day's worth of
logs..

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can start looking?

Thx

Andy

Maybe there is nobody visiting your website at those
times?

Are there errors in the event log?

There are over 300 sites on the server which quite a few of them have stats
from search engines to prove that their are hits to the site. Also, some
code which records which pages are visited (coded into each ASP page) also
reflect the visits.

As far as the error log goes, we get quite a number of the following:

----Application Log- w3svc - event ID 2265
The registry key for IIS subauthenticator is not configured correctly on
local machine, the anonymous password sync feature is disabled.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp." target="_blank">http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.</a>
----

We occasionally get some of these:

----Server Log - http - Event Id 15006
Owner of the log file or directory
D:\siteusername\LogFiles\W3SVC321\ex040331.log is invalid. This could be
because another user has already created the log file or the directory.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Try this one:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=2265&source=" target="_blank">http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=2265&source=</a>

Also, check the ownership of the logfiles directory.
Whichever account is actually creating the logfile does
not have the rights to possibly...
