Apparantly IIS is now built in the Windows 2003 kernel, thus making it way
faster than before, when IIS was modular. "they" say Apache's performance on
2k3 will now not match IIS's, and even a Linux/Apache combo should have a
hard time keeping up with IIS/2k3 in terms of speed AND stability (!)
Personally I frown a bit hearing that, I have been properly educated to
believe Linux/Apache still is the most reliable/fast/stable etc... combo of
choice, but of course things MAY change. Without wanting to stir up a feud,
can someone point me to TRUSTworthy results of head to head comparison ?
From a "principles and experience" point of view I'd like to keep
recommending Apache/Linux or even Apache/Win in the future when so asked,
but can I underpin my advise still with FACTS or has Bill pulled a stunt and
indeed has the best papers now. For many companies considering a
webserver/intranet there is a usual preference for MS, as they use that in
the office and have longlasting experience with it.
In other words, how do I build the apache/linux case best these days ? Any
serious comment or p.o.v. is welcome, especially also the
hegemony-challenging ones! I know I -like most normal people- am biased, so
I might need a refresher here...
TIA!
