Hey all,

Might be a question suitable for a different NG - but here goes anyway...

I'm making a webapplication that generates a folder for every user that's
added, but I'm wondering if there's a limit on Windows 2000 Server (running
NTFS) on the numbers of files or directories that can exist in the same
directory.

Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

as far as I'm aware, there IS no limit, though in practical terms it
becomes harder and harder to manage the more directories you have. This
will become an issue long before you hit a limit in the FS

There always is a limit, I think NTFS is limited to 2^64 objects on a single
volume. And as long as you don't try to manage it manually you should be
fine for a long time. Having couple thousand directories is no biggie...

Actually there are limits in IIS which are imposed by the structure of
the Metabase :
