I learned a valuable lesson today as far as print advertising is
concerned.....
We enquired about advertising, and were told that the magazine in question
only had a single quarter-page space left available, and a single 94x30mm
(half banner) space left available.....
Then we were told that the copy deadline was 12:00 on Monday.....
We were told if we booked the quarter page, they'd throw in the 94x30 space
for a fraction of the original cost, but we hadn't decided what we were
doing by that stage.....
Half an hour after reserving the 94x30mm space, we got a second email
offering us the quarter page at a greatly reduced rate (well under half
price).....
We didn't take the extra slot, and I thought no more about it until now.....
I've just realised that the best time to book your advertising is just
before the copy deadline.....It seems to me that they were left with a
couple of spaces in the mag that they were struggling to fill at the last
moment, and were prepared to sell them on at a reduced rate as it's better
than not selling the space at all.....
I know this method may not always work.....It may sometimes backfire, and
you could be left with o advertising spaces at all, but the reductions were
so big that it seems like a worthwhile gamble......
