Open your registry editor and do a search for the domain name.
Delete all references to it.
Many times you get hijacked and the way they do that is to add the path in
your registry.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Internet Explorer Problems + Opens some search website |

You're using Internet Explorer, which is remarkably susceptible to
search/homepage hijacks.
First download a program called AdAware 6, run it, run the updates
function, then let it scan your system. Remove everything it finds.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/" target="_blank">http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/</a>
If you're running the original Kazaa (not lite) AdAware will remove some
spyware that's essential to running Kazaa. Just uninstall Kazaa and get
the lite version.
Once you've removed the spyware from your system, go here:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/" target="_blank">http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/</a>
And download a proper browser. You'll be a lot better off.

But with Firefox he get only a browser. Since he is using IE now, I
guess he use OE for mail. So why not suggest a proper mail software
also
If he wants mail and browser as a "package", Mosilla is my suggestion.

There's always Opera. Decent browser, I used to use it a lot, but you
have to pay to get rid of the banner ads.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.opera.com/" target="_blank">http://www.opera.com/</a>
Still, having a banner ad tattooed to my forehead would be less painful
than using OE for mail.

You likely have the CoolWebSearch hijacker. AFAIK, the other
anti-crapware programs mentioned don't cure it. You should get and run
the special CWShredder program. See here:

This happened to me once and never again. Look in google for
"lock browser homepage" and you can find a little thing that will
lock your homepage so not even you can change it.
It edits the registry value that allows this to be changed. Of course you
can also find instructions online on how to do this but I took the easy
route and let this little program do it *grin*
Now I have no problem ever with my homepage changing and my custom homepage
that I set up stays put. I have noticed a time or two that, I guess in
frustration, the search
pages opened in a new window when they could not change my start page. Still
they were
easy enough to find and delete.

You know what? Spybot or any other adware killing software will do the
same thing for you without phucking anything up ... unless you
absolutely know what you're doing ... do not play around with your
registry entries. Some adware can create dependencies and if you do a
simple find and delete, you're likely to bugger up an application or two
along the way, or more likely your operating system.
If you do manually edit your registry, back it up first.
Richard, you're an idiot.

If it was put in the registry by a third party, it can be safely removed.
Was it there when you installed windows? No.
I've removed dozens of entries like this and not once had any problems.
Most hijackers are just interested in making sure they get you as a
customer.
And if you don't want to delete the items, no problem. Just modify the
content to a site of your choice.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Internet Explorer Problems + Opens some search website |

The common advice around is to use removal software but you really need a
"shield" type of software. You need the ones that actually stop these
spyware from coming in from the first place instead of removing them after
the fact and after harm might have already been done.
Invest in software like PestControl or Spy Sweeper. They also work as popup
blocker, cookie blocker.. etc.
I am using these and notices that they find spyware that adaware and Spybot
didn't find.
