No, this post isn't about a bug in IE disappearing. We're not that
lucky.

One my sites was struck by the mysterious Internet Explorer "Peekaboo
bug", which causes page elements to vanish until you scroll past the
blank space where they should be.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on, and I didn't notice
until now as the main pages of the site were unaffected.

For some strange reason, the bug only had an effect on inner pages I
hadn't checked in IE. Those pages use the exact layout of the main pages
that I did check.

Just in case anybody finds their content mysteriously disappearing in
IE, but fine in proper browers, the description of the problem is here:

http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/peekaboo.html

And a working solution can be found here:

http://www.positioniseverything.net/articles/hollyhack.html

I've tested it and there don't appear to be any side effects in Firefox
or Opera.

I know this might be old news, but I didn't know about it and there's
bound to be somebody struggling who might be helped by this post.

It's not just peculiar to IE. I've had that happen in firefox.

There are two scrollbar things using java applets.
Every now and then, the imagery may not be where it's supposed to be.
Tonight, I had one part on the toolbar and part in the system tray.
To get rid of it, I ran my mouse over the stuff.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
