Hello,
I am wondering what has gone awry here and of course I am
the creator of the error so I cannot find the mistake.
I have 6 sites running under IIS 6.0 w2k3 5 of them are
registerd domain names and are external. I created them on
the same IP with host headers (no SSL). I have one site
that is the default site running as an internal site.
Here is what I can't figure out.
Why can I not create another internal site and have front
page find it? Nor can I create a network place to it. I
did extend the FP 2002 extensions as I did for all the
others. However the FP extensions do not find the site.
afterwards.
Is there something I should know about creating another
internal site that I do not know now?
I need to have them for test sites for upcoming webs.
any thoughts would be very nice!
Thanks

How are you creating the other internal site? Host header name? IP?

Tom,
I created them like this: same port (80)
1.right click "websites"
2.new web
3.name for this web = testsite1
4.set permissions
browse for the directory = D:\testsite1root
what host header name = testsite1 (notice the abscent .com)
port 80
(all unassigned)
testsite1
finish
stop web and restart
right click testsite1
all tasks configure 2002 extensions
all IP are the same 12.164.55.xxx
Answer the other question
I have no trouble setting up other sites that are external
there is no internal DNS
The other external sites have the host header as so
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mydomain.com" target="_blank">www.mydomain.com</a>
mydomain.com
all unassigned and port 80
Thanks

Tom,
The internal site is the default and the name of the
server so it will find it, no host header I left it blank.
Any other site I guess it cannot see
Thank you,

Depends on what you mean by "find it." Post errors if you receive
them.

Probably. DNS set correctly? Host headers? Answering a specific IP
that isn't on the system? Can you ping it? By IP? By name? All the
basic networking isssues. Can you browse it from the server itself?
Is it started? Does it show in the MMC? Are you talking web sites or
subwebs?
We need a whole lot more detail to track this down.

I am using external DNS from the internet I do not have
w2k3 set as a DHCP to assign internal IP's or my own DNS I
have the server set to applications server and print
server and file server. All of the web that I created are
with this:
1.right click "websites"
2.new web
3.name for this web = testsite1
4.set permissions
browse for the directory = D:\testsite1root
what host header name = testsite1 (notice the abscent .com)
port 80
(all unassigned)
testsite1
finish
stop web and restart
right click testsite1
all tasks configure 2002 extensions
all IP are the same 12.164.55.xxx

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mydomain.com" target="_blank">www.mydomain.com</a>

See Jeff's response. If you're not going to use DNS or a different IP,
you'll need to specify a different port for each additional site.

I thank you very much
Is there a work around or different port to use with the
same IP?

With no intertnal DNS the name of your system internally has to be
resolved by broadcast or WINS. That means you only get to a site by
the machine name, so you can't designate a second site. You need name
resolution internally to use Host Headers as in your external sites
and have more than one site on an IP.
Take a look at:
Running mutiple web sites on a single IP address:
