Your problem is related to having Service Pack 1. SP1 contains updated
versions of several files. So, the installer wants some files from the
original CD, and some files from SP1
You will need to have the original i386 folder (as you have discovered), and
you'll need to extract the files from the sp1 executable that you have on
the CD. You will then need to point the installed at each set of files as
required.
What I recommend is "slipstreaming", which unpacks the SP1 files into your
original files. You can then point the installer that this single updated
set of files, and you won't need to do anything. You can then burn this
setup of files to a CD if you wish (and then, if you use that CD to install
Windows XP, it'll already be at Service Pack 1).
To extract the SP1 files you do this at a command prompt:
sp1setup.exe -x
(where sp1setup.exe is the name of the SP1 setup file). You'll be asked
where you want to extract the files. Enter somethign like c:\sp1)
If you want to then slipstream these files into your original XP setup
files, follow the instructions here:
http://old.bink.nu/bootcd/ (about one third of the way down).
Cheers

: Hi, I have perhaps a unique problem thats giving me grief. I have XP Pro
on
: my laptop and a few months ago when SP1 came out I updated my OS from the
: Service pack that was on the PC World CDROM.
: As usual there were some driver issues that eventually got sorted out.
: And now to the problem. Up until that time I had not installed IIS. Now, I
: would like to and begin using/learning Dreamweaver/Flash and asp.net.
: I went to control panel and used the add windows components wizard to
: install it. I was asked for the XP SP1 CDROM. Having placed the PC world
cd
: in, nothing happened, well it did but it was an error message telling me a
: file called INFOCOMM wasnt there,
: I then browsed to the relevant folder on the CD and still the error
message
: appeared.
: My next brainwave was to get my original XP CD and copy the IIS folder to
my
: i386 folder on the hard drive and point to it....that didnt work either
but
: it did progress a little bit further as it found InfoComm but then it
didnt
: find another file.......default i think it was.
: I've run out of ideas and would appreciate some help from you guys
: Thank you very much
