Post subject: Installing IIS in Win XP pro
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have upgraded to WinXP pro in order to run IIS. When
installed, I am unable to install "Windows Critical
Updates" and I am not able to remove IIS from the
Add/Remove section of the control panel. Also, I am
unable to do a system restore to go back to a point before
IIS was installed. There is no way for me to go to the
IIS control panel from the administration tools either in
the control panel. It gives me an hour glass cursor for a
couple of seconds when I click on Internet Information
Services then goes back to the regular cursor. Finally,
the computer boots up extremely slow now after IIS has
been installed.

How do I get rid of this thing without re-formating the
hard drive and doing a complete re-installation?

Thank you for any help.

Some users have issues with upgrading from XP Home to XP Pro and
running IIS without a reformat/reinstall. But if you post the error
messages, especially event log entries, we might be able to help.

Jeff,

Thank you for the offer. However, the strange thing is that there are
no error messages happening. It is as if there is something conflicting
with IIS that doesn't allow it to operate. I've shut down every service
I thought might be doing this but still problems.

I have been able to revert back to an earlier profile that didn't have
IIS installed. Everything is running smoothly again. It even boots
"relatively" faster now.

Ultimately, after the holidays, and after I've backed up files, I'm
going to do a re-format install to see if that will work.

Very frustrated because I purchased the XP home upgrade only to find I
needed to purchase the XP pro upgrade to get IIS. If I had gone
directly from Win98SE to XP pro my problems may not have happened. Plus
I would not be out the money I spent for the now useless version of XP
home!

Again, thank you for your offer, but I don't have any error messages
to report.
Chris
