I spent all day today trying to install gosh-darned everloving Internet
Information Services (IIS) on my installation of WinXP Pro on my new Dell.

I tried doing it from Control Panels --> Add/Remove Programs. It ran through
the motions, said the installation was "completed successfully" but after
restart, there's still no Microsoft Management Console listed under Control
Panels --> Performance and Maintenance!

Tried doing the same thing from the Dell CD, with no results.

Could ZoneAlarm be at fault here? I'm tearing my hair out.

Of course it is.
Alas, I have no such shortcut listed.

Nope - that wouldn't prevent it from installing.

Look in the Services control panel applet. Do you have World Wide Web
Publishing Service and IIS Admin Service listed?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I had exactly the same issue when i installed IIS to my WinXP Pro laptop. My
install was successful, but no shortcut was created - no idea why!

First check that the install created the "Inetpub" directory on your hard
drive (will be at the root of the hard drive used by Windows). If it is
there, this is a good sign. Now go to:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Here, find the
node "Services and Applications", expand it to reveal the Internet
Information Services node. You can now administer IIS as normal.

The IIS console exe is located here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\inetmgr.exe - navigate here and create a
shortcut and put it where you like (desktop or Administrative Tools folder.)
