Post subject: IIS 6.0 Won't Install Correctly In Server Standard 2003
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

On one of our servers, I am trying to install IIS 6.0 During the
installation process, all files appear to copy fine but when the progress bar
gets to the Installing IIS portion, I receive four messages along the way
stating that the files could not register properly in the web server's
database with an error code of 0x80070006 (File hand is invalid.) I choose
retry each time and the server continues on finishing the installation.

When I open the IIS Manager, it then proceeds to tell me that IIS 5.0 (not
6.0) is installed on this computer. On the Manager screen, under the name of
the server, I have folders that say Application Pools and Websites. The
Websites tab has a white X in a red circle. There is no Web Service
Extensions folder at all. When I try to go in to the Application Pools
folder, after about 30-60 seconds, I get a file handle is invalid error
message.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the same thing happens. I've
tried rolling back from SP1 to no SP1 and tried again; same thing happens.

Any suggestions as to what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Dennis,

I have three suggestions for you on this issue.
1. Please use one Windows 2003 standard sp1 CD (not the RTM CD ) to perform
the installation
2. since the File Handler error is very odd, please check the event viewer
to see whether any other related information could be found
3. check the OS to see whether any Anti-virus, system monitoring service
are running in the system. These may affect the installation process

Expect to your troubleshooting result. My pleasure to be of any assistance.
