Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello,

I've looked and discovered there are numerous posts regarding inetinfo.exe
going stupid, but I haven't seen any solutions.

This started off as a Visual Studio 2005 post, as the IDE would lock up as
soon as we tried to write ASP code. After two days of searching, we found
that inetinfo.exe was causing the system to hang (it even prevented installs
and uninstalls from happening). The CPU usage did not go way up, but when
we killed the inetinfo.exe process everything that was hung started working
again. Inetinfo.exe promptly popped right back into the process list, but
it was much better behaved.

Is there a repair to inetinfo.exe?

Thanks,
Craig

Hi WenJun,

Don't you agree, that IIS 6 *constantly* crashes and that there has not been
any patch or KB that admitted this, to solve this?

IIS 5 was very stable, but IIS 6 seems too unstable and crashy.

Hi David,

this is true.
Sometimes, after just starting IIS and if an SMTP mail goes in immediately,
inetinfo.exe crashes.

I cannot reproduce, and I don't have the wish to debug this all...
:<
If it were a consequent thing, I would have loved to hand you a report that
you can reproduce.
It is just a fact, IIS 6 is rather unstable in the time that I got to know
this IIS.

I have hundreds of crash reports and I've have them sent through automatic
submission.

And I've once sent such a crash report to you ,here in this NG, but you
coudl not see any crash reason. W3WP.exe crashes on a daily base on an
unspecified memory address and because of this, I made sure that I removed
..NET interop components. I rewrote all components to COM components.

THen I started testing a certain intranet application on IIS 6 on a virtual
Server(s) with fresh installations out of the box. And the same crashes
happened again, this time without running any custom components at all but
only when I used ASp .NET 2.0.

It's not 'hear say' but it's a fact. And debug diag, well, it did not
pinpoint any recognizable API.

I installed the latest IIS Diag Tool but it complains about not being able
to connect COM+ to Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTS)
