Best (most simple way) to think of things is "1kb per second". How many
seconds will one of your visitors be willing to wait?
This is by no means a totally realistic way to work out load times - if
your visitors are predominatly broadbank, a 50+ kb image will still only
take a second or less to load... so.... When I work on sites which I
KNOW are for slower users, the 1k per second rule seems a reasonable guess.
