Hi,

Anyone have any suggestions for a reliable web hosting service that
offers IMAP e-mail accounts? I've looked at Prohosters ($60/year, but
no IMAP) and Lunar Pages ($7/month, but people claim their IMAP is
SLOW).

This is for personal use, so I'm hoping to spend ~$60/year. I'd like
the standard web space and bandwidth restrictions, but that's not as
critical to me as e-mail.

script with every account, it simply accesses your mail via IMAP. The
main guy there (Gary) used to be an active poster here.

good prices, too. 100mb disk/3gb bandwidth for $27.50 a year (USD)

I've been running an account with them for over a year, referred a few
friends to them, as well.

Thanks Jerry. I'll definitely check them out. I noticed that there are
several references to a Australian HQ on their site, as well as
references to US locations. How does the Aussie HQ affect speeds?
Where is their US POP?

I've also noticed that connections to their forum site is slow (I'm
assuming that is hosted in Australia) and that there is no reference
to IMAP there.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

all the accounts ordered through <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.enhancedhost.com" target="_blank">www.enhancedhost.com</a> will be hosted at
various datacenters in the USA. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.aussiehosts.com" target="_blank">www.aussiehosts.com</a> is their AU hosting.

yeah, I ran a traceroute and yes, the forum is run on one of their AU
servers. I pinged it, and got a average of 266ms. I pinged yahoo.com and
got an average of 100ms. then, I pinged my domain hosted by them in the
USA, and got an average of 63ms

whatevah.com is my domain hosted with them. I know that
gretnacadetsquadron.com (31ms ping) is hosted with them, as well as
wendyrn.com, incase you want to do more speed checks

hehe watching my ping program, I think somebody on my LAN is running kazaa.

yes, I notice that they do not advertise the IMAP service. however, the
default webmail package is Squirrelmail, which uses IMAP, and I have my
girlfriend accessing her mail with Outlook Express via IMAP, as well.
but... just ask on the forums, Gary should answer within an hour or so.

Interesting... As a sidenote, ping programs aren't always completely
accurate. Routers tend to treat ICMP traffic as the lowest priority
traffic, so it's possible that a host that seems slow with ping (or
traceroute) is actually faster with standard TCP/UDP traffic.
