Using appcmd list backup it seems that IIS is making backups of the config.
Where are they? When does it make these bacups?

Is it possible to make a new site or v dir from a saved config as it was in
IIS6?

Thanks

1) Appcmd create metabase backup at inetsrv\backup folder.
while the automatic config history is store at inetpub\history, and
maxhistories control the max number of history files kept.

2) Not for IIS6, for IIS 7, you still need to tweak abit before it can be
use for new site/vdir etc.
anyway - you can try the new Web deployment tool if you looking for
migration.

In inetsrv I only have two folders, config and en-us. At what point does IIS
start to make automatic backups of config and store them in \history?

Thanks
