Hi!

I'm trying to set up an environment that needs password changes through the Internet using IIS6. My cenario has two W2K DCs+GCs+DNSs+SP4, one of them with Exchange 2000, and a W2K3 IIS6 that hosts a website. Every time I try to change a password using IIS6 I get results like -2147023569 or -2147023570. The W2K3 is part of the domain and can find the DC using DNS. I've set up a second server for test and results are the same.

Working on that problem, I've configured the Exchange 2K IIS5 with the Authentication Manager, but I can only change passwords wich the user's account is checked with (User must change password at the next logon), so I open the page aexp2b.htr and change the password. Any other situantion doesn't work.

I'm using SSL on both, IIS5 and IIS6.

Looking on the Event Viewer of the servers, I got a suspicious event, but I don't get anything from the Microsoft Knowledge Base to help.

Windows 2003
Source: DCOM
EventID: 10002
Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The server is:
{000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
The user is NETWORK SERVICE/NT AUTHORITY, SID=S-1-5-20.

Hi elcio,

Let's get simple Smile

Just deal with the IIS box.

Can you browse to the password page?

Can you change a password from a local account / not a domain account?

Explain to me a bit deeper as to when you can actually get this to change?

What version of Windows 2003 are you running? What's the build number?

Is it: Microsoft .NET Beta 3, build 3590

Thank you,

Hi Tony!

My company is a Microsoft Certified Partner here in Brazil, but I'm
trying to find out the solution before open a Microsoft Support
Incident. I got this Windows 2003 from MSDN Subscription. It's not a
beta .Net product, it's a final release (the media from MSDN is a dual
installation - W2K3 Standard & Enterprise). I'm using the Standard one
licensed by the MCP Program.

Well, about the problem, the passoword change worked fine about 2 weeks
and than stopped on IIS6 and partially on IIS5.

The cenary is an IIS6 that doesn't allow password changes, returning the
codes 2147023569 and -2147023570. So, as a temporary workaround, I
changed to an IIS5 server.

I can browse the page aexp2b.asp on IIS6, put the informations like
Domain, User Account, Password and new password, but it return the
codes. When the password is expired the server notifies the user, but
when him/her changes it, the server returns the same error codes.

Diferently the IIS5 allows the password change, but only if the user
account has the flag to change the password on the next logon.

I'm W2K MCSE but IIS6 XML Metabase is not very familiar to me. My
researches point that IIS6 IISADMPWD is SSL enable by default, than I
didn't use adsutil PasswordChangeFlag on it as I did on IIS5.

Both IIS5 and IIS6 point to a Integrated DNS that's also DC+GC. The FSMO
are on another server.

I'll try to change a local user password.

Thank you very much to help me.

Elcio Favare
