Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi

This seems to be a popular topic!

Running XP Pro and trying to get a webserver up and going too. If it helps I
have Norton Firewall and Internet Security (although have same problem if I
disable these)

Serves html pages but not asp

When I type http://localhost

this is what I get in IE: ( I have friendly messages turned off)
Server Application Error
The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the
processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail
information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

Here is the event error:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 36
Date: 19/01/2004
Time: 00:32:16
User: N/A
Computer: SYCAMORE-7I3VAR
Description:
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error was
'Class not registered

Any suggestions, have tried just about everything I can find.

Regards

Joe

I seem to recall a note on this at www.aspfaq.com, though I could be
wrong - but it's worth a check.

Searched hard here, a great site, but no cigar!

My msdtc service does not appear to want to run, is this anything to do with
it?

It's causing an error when I try to run synciwam.vbs to realign everything?

Cheers

Joe

On further investigation, I seem to have two .exe files not running when
they should be.

dllhost.exe which is something to do with IWAM Network Service
and
msdtc.exe

In a clean install of XP and IIS5 (using Virtual PC) these two are running
and IIS serves asp fine

Not so on my "real"system.

I am also running Norton Antivirus and Firewall, have tried disabling both,
and script blocking, but still no joy

Will this point anyone to an answer?

dllhost.exe will not spin up until the first request is served from that process. Try this article:

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
