1 How can I know which version IIS running?

2 Under default web sites, there are a bunch directories, _vti_bin,
_private, _vti_cnf,_vti_pvt, _vti_log etc, what's these directories
stand for?

windows 2000 runs iis 5.0
windows 2003 runs iis 6.0
windows xp is 5.1

those folders are created by frontpage

You mension IIS's version is determined by OS version, but is it
possible for someone to install IIS6 on Windows XP?
