Post subject: IIS Questions
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello all, i'm new here. Looking for some answers to the following questions:
.. Does IIS 6.0 come free with any Microsoft Operating System? I know XP
Professional came with IIS 5.
.. If i were to buy Microsoft Windows Server 2003 what would i get besides
IIS 6.0? Is the Microsoft Exchange Server bundled in. Is there any conflict
in running Exchange and IIS on the same machine?
.. If i were a small business and i was interested in building and hosting my
own web applications what type of hardware would you recommend the server be
on?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

IIS 6.0 only comes with and runs on Windows Server 2003

If you bought Windows Server 2003 you would get the whole operating system -
which includes IIS. Exchange is a separate product so you would not get
that - unless you bought Small Business Server 2003 - then you would get
Windows Server 2003, Small Business Edition, and Exchange (and a few other
things). There is no problem running Exchange on the same machine as IIS -
and as a matter of fact, Exchange uses some IIS components like SMTP, and if
you install OWA, the web server as well.

Thank you very much for your help. What type of hardware would you recommend
for running Windows Server 2003? Is Windows Server 2003 a traditional windows
OS? Would i be able to manage IIS 6 in much the same way as IIS 5 in XP Pro?

Hi,

The type of hardware really depends on what you plan on doing, and how many
users you are planning to have

Windows Server 2003 is like any other Windows Server operating system, and
the IIS configuration is generally the same. I suggest you try the
evaluation copy to see if it's right for you:
