Post subject: IIS directory name problem?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I am tracking an IIS server problem down and I'm even more confused
now than when I started.

I have three directories: admissions2, admissions3, and admissions-2 I
have the exact same file in all three, same permissions, same
everything.
The admissions3 folder is a newly created folder.
The admissions-2 folder is a copy of admissions2 folder.

When I call http://server2.setonhill.edu/admissions2/network.pdf
I get the file download Dialog box - Open Save Cancel More Info.

I click Open, or Save and I get the error:

Internet Explorer cannot download network.pdf from
server2.setonhill.edu.
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The
requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try
again later.

When I call http://server2.setonhill.edu/admissions3/network.pdf
The file opens normally.

I then copy (or even just rename) the directory admissions2 to
admissions-2

When I call http://server2.setonhill.edu/admissions-2/network.pdf
The file opens normally.

Am I missing something here?

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Check for a virtual folder on the web site. The directory tree might be
getting interupted by that. (i.e. the folder tree you see in the file
system is not the same as the folder tree on the server)

If this is the case, you should not be able to download any other files you
put in there and get a similar error.
