Post subject: IIS 5.1 Server 500 Error
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi.

My IIS 5.1 webs server on my WinXP pro has stopped working for no reason.

I looked for a solution on the internet and found several articles
suggesting that I needed to un- and re- install IIS or/and ASP.NET ...and I
tried uninstalling and reinstalling both IIS and ASP.NET 1.1 but nothing
happened. Even tried to make sure that anonymous access was allowed, etc
but still nothing.

Please help.

We first need to identify the error, rather than trying various changes.

In your copy of IE, please goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced, and
uncheck "Show friendly HTTP errors" and reload the page that has the 500
error. Please post the full error message you see now.

Thanks

Cheers
Ken

Hello,

Please follow the instructions and look in the event log.

Start->Run, eventvwr.msc

If you do not know what it means, please post the full error to the
