Having an issue using the migration tool for IIS 6. I put in the command to
migrate a website but get the following error:

The IIS Migration Tool was unable to connect to the remote computer.
The RPC server is unavailable.

Not sure where to go from there. I can't find anything on the net regarding
that error and IIS6 migration. Hoping someone here can help me out.

It's not an IIS issue is probably why you can't find it. Smile

RPC connections are a network function, and you'll find help in a
networking group or the Server upgrade group. They'll be asking you
about trusts and domain memberships, plus NetBIOS resolution and
connectivity I'd suppose.

Do the two servers have to be on the same networking subnet for the
migration to work?

From the IIS 6.0 Migration Tool Documentation:

Before You Begin

You install the IIS 6.0 Migration Tool only on the target server — the
server that is running Windows Server 2003 operating system and IIS 6.0 and
to which you want to migrate Web sites. You can run the migration tool
executable program from any location on the target server. You do not need
to install the tool on the source server—the server from which you want to
migrate Web sites.
Before you begin using the migration tool, ensure that the following
conditions are met in your environment:

* You have established a network connection between the source and target
servers.
* The IISAdmin service is running on both the source and target servers.
* Administrative file sharing is enabled on the source server; for example,
the server allows drive mapping of drives C$ and D$.
* You have administrator privileges and are the administrator on both the
source and the target servers.
* You have adequate hard disk space on the target server to accommodate the
Web site content that will be migrated.
