I'm running Win2003 Server, with IIS 6.0.
I have an ASP.NET app that simply hangs (stops serving pages), with no error
and no errors in the event logs.
The only solution so far is to 'recycle' the DefaultApp Pool about every
hour.
The application is moderately used, about 20 logins/hour.
I've run both IISState and the CHAgent.
Neither seem to provide the information i'm looking for ... a cause, at
least a hint to where the problem might be.
I've included both the iisstate log file and the chagent log file (snipped).
I'm really hoping someone can lead me in the right direction
much thanks...

Hello Bill,
When you say that the ASP.net app hangs, does ASP, still work? Try a simple
asp page with
<% Response.Write(now) %>
does html work?
do other ASPX pages work outside that application?
Also, what does the application do? Has it ever worked? When did it stop?
What changed?
Thank you,

Tony,
1. yes, both html & standard ASP work (the main brochure/information site
still works just fine).
2. I only have the one ASP.NET application, so not sure if a different app
would work. I'll test this today. (in the same app pool, yes?)
3. the app uses microsoft.data.ODBC to connect to Sybase ASA ver 8.0,
execute a couple sp's and display results in a datagrid. the Connection is
establish and always '.Close', never left opened.
4. the app has always intermitantly hung on the production box (Win2003, IIS
6), but works on the dev machine (Win XP Pro)
The app will work for a few connections, then simply stop responding. Once I
'recylce' the application pool, I will get an error in the system event log
(W3SVC 1013) ... a process servicing the app pool has exceed it time limit
during shutdown...
Once this happens then the Crash Hang Agent will provide the dump.
thanks for the help, really appreciate it...

interesting side note:
i created a second, very basic application (connect) which connects to
sybase, and does a simple select.
and i forgot to put the /bin/connect.dll on the production box ...
when i ran the app the "anonyous user" counter began to increase at a high
rate, and the app appears to hang.
once i put the connect.dll over, i had to recycle the app pool before
anything would work.

Tony,
yes, other ASP.NET applications continue to work from the same application
pool, even though the original application is hung.
the 'Current Anonymous User' counter is usually very high 50 to 150. once i
recycle the app pool, this counter returns to zero and all applications work
fine .. for a while.

It's very important to find out if a simple ASPX page will work... Please
reply back when you've found that answer...
It seems that we may need to get that group involved as IIS is not hung but
ASPX is...

yes, both ASP & ASPX pages will continue to work, when the original ASPX
application stops responding.

If other aspx pages continue to function, I don't think your problem is
with IIS. I think you're having a coding issue. I would strip out the
code as much as possible in your page and try to break down which section
is actually breaking.
I would also think about posting this problem in a aspx newsgroup.
I would also be interested in knowing if if you if you can connect from
another page to SyBase during the same time.
Thank you,

yep. Recently came across something like this.
We had a navigation control which traced the user's current position all
the way up the hierarchial tree all the way to home. 1/2 of a line of code
was changed and certain pages began to exhibit behavior that caused IIS and
SQL Server to hang.
