I had to reinstall IIS 5.0 on my windows 2k server after the Metabase.bin file gor corrupted. I have successfully installed IIS - however when I tried to configure and connect to the server via the console, I receive the following error - "The system cannot find the specified path" - I typed in both the server name as well as the IP address - the result is the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Doesn't look like we have a clean reinstall of IIS on the server. Uninstall
IIS, make sure the old metabase.bin is deleted or atleast renamed, that the
winnt\system32\inetsrv folder has no files (some files may reappear after
you delete them due to file protection on windows, so don't worry about
that) and then install IIS again.

Hope this helps!

Hey ~

To add to Yogita's comment, just a note that there are 4 files that you
cannot delete in inetsrv. Do not worry about these (they are supposed to
stay). The bigger question I have for you is whether your metabase was
"corrupt" or not... Customers often mistake the metabase as being corrupt
when in fact the problem is more related to missing objects such as keys.
For example, delete the w3svc key and try and start w3svc service and it
will fail. It (metabase) isn't corrupt, but instead just missing key
components needed to effectively start the service.

With that said, you can download Metabase Explorer 1.2 from the IIS 6
Resource Kit and use this to open your old metabase. If you have it...

Last, an IIS metabase is not corrupt if the IIS Admin service starts. This
is a sign of corruption is the IIS Admin fails to start. This is b/c the
metabase is read into memory when IIS Admin is started...
