Ok, I tried it, and when things go ok, that's great.
However, I've now spent almost two weeks trying to get
a problem fixed, and I've sent five e-mails, had three
responses (roughly), but they still haven't fixed the problem.
The problem is that they offer unlimited add-on domains,
but I haven't been able to make even one work. The dns
names they give me aren't recognized by my registrar.
Also, their panel routine keeps creating subdomains
instead of add-on domains.
Does anyone else have experience with this? I like the
price, but so far, the support is severely lacking. Which
is ok, I didn't sign up with them for the support, but they
should at least be able to simply explain what is going wrong
with _their_ own panel/equipment.

Sounds like they are using Cpanel? For add-on domains, it DOES create a
subdomain. However, if they give you access to WebHostManager (which they
should), you can add them WITHOUT doing it the 'subdomain' way. In my
opinion, WHM is much better to do it that way...rather than doing it as an
'add-on'.
If they are using Cpanel, feel free to use our FAQ/Knowledge Base.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.affordablehost.com" target="_blank">http://support.affordablehost.com</a> - see the section on 'add-on domains'
(which you are trying to do) and also WebHostManager (which is how I
recommend adding domains).

sure, do you really think they own the equipment and developed the panel?

Hi Tina,
Thanks for the useful response. Yes, they use cpanel. I don't see any
webhostmanager. The problem seems to be resolved now. Server related.
However, I really appreciated you reacting so quickly and the FAQ
with the cpanel information in it.
I'm sticking with them for now, as their rates don't cut into my
still small site's income too much. I'm not in the league to affort
$50/month hosting yet, but maybe that day will come.

What was the problem, if you don't mind answering?
To see if you have WebHostManager, see if you get a login box when you go
here: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.yourdomain.com/whm" target="_blank">http://www.yourdomain.com/whm</a>
Obviously, replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.

From what I gather, their servers had become unstable and
they were switching to new ones. I tried using the numbered
addresses cpanel kicked out when creating an add-on domain,
but they weren't recognized as valid addresses at my registrar.
This was all a first time for me, I've never set up add-on
domains or anything like that.
It is empowering, because I now feel I can create any website
I want, on any subject, and do it at the same host.

Thanks for the hint. Well it's there, but I don't have the password for it.
