Post subject: HELP! - IIS 5.0 not showing SSL site
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello All,

I have a client with a Dell Server running Windows 2000 IIS 5.0 with an SSL
cert on their website. Only one directory is configured with the cert. I can
access the website except for any link that takes me to the secure
directory. I get an error:

"The page cannot be displayed"
"The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might
be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your
browser settings."

I've double-checked the settings within IIS, I've checked the firewall and
made sure there was a policy for HTTPS. I've looked through the Event Log
and found no errors. I've checked the directories for the requested files
and they're all there. I can't figure it out. The message makes it sound
like the files aren't there but they are.

I've done all I know to do. PLEASE, any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Troy

Configuring a directory with a certificate does not make sense.
Perhaps I have misunderstood you.
I would use the internet service administrator to make a new web site
using port 443 and install the certificate via one of the tabs for the
properties for this new "site". Have the home directory point to the
relevant SSL content directory.
NOTE, make sure that the SSL directory is NOT below the normal web root.
This should be elsewhere on the server eg...

D:\site1\normalwebdirectory
D:\site1\ssldirectory

Hello Troy,
It appears that you are enforcing SSL only on a certain part of the website
and are now unable to access it using https. Please run the tool SSLDiag
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cabea1d0-5a10-41bc
-83d4-06c814265282&DisplayLang=en) and save the output to a log file. This
will tell us about any SSL misconfigurations on the server. You can review
the log for any warnings or errors yourself and identify the problem or
post it to the newsgroup.

Thanks,
