Anyone else do this?

Whenever I check my sites on Google, I always click on the link for them.

My theory (pure speculation) is that they may be running some sort of link
popularity algorithm, so I always give 'em a click just in case!!

Yeah, but given the links to the sites are direct - there's no way for
Google to know which ones are clicked - once the site is displayed, it sits
on your browser and google has no way to know what, if anything, you've
done with the results.

BINGO! Every now and then for test purposes Google runs the links
through a redirect to gather data. However, unless this is the case
they'll never know.

Sometimes, but I think that I do it purely out of habit (ie. do a search
in Google then click the top result automatically) rather than to affect
my listing.

Do you have the Google toolbar for IE? There is speculation that this also
helps.

Did have, but then dropped it a while back. Thought recently about putting
it on again, may well do so. Second-guessing them is all part of the fun!

Good point Marc! The "cached" link goes through a script, maybe I should
click that instead. It's gone midnight, maybe I should just go to bed!

I heard about this many months ago and then in fact witnessed it one
day about two weeks ago.. SO STRANGE!

that day my mouse got a work-out.

I rarely go to google, well, maybe once a month or so, and never search for
any of my sites. - Far as I know they are not even listed. (at least not
prominantly)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
