There's probably a couple of links to that site that use that
word in the linktext
You can check that by clicking the 'cache' link in Google, it
then says "These terms only appear in links pointing to this
page: f**kwit".

Same way "miserable failure" brings up Bush's biography. There are
about a zillion links to the site using those terms in the anchor
text. One of the big flaws in Google's algo is that you can do this if
there are enough of you. You have a link formed thus;
anchor text
It's what you put in the anchor text that infuences Google's
assessment of the site's content, not what's actually there.

Hence, it can hardly be called a flaw.

Flaw? I like the idea of the 'popular vote' What ever you may think of
yourself, your pages, your products, it is what others think that really counts.

Yup, it's not a flaw. It's like saying that PHPbb's PageRank is prove of a
flaw in the algorithm because (almost) every PHPbb install makes a link to
the main site.
To make the anchor text trick work one needs links, a lot of them.

I've seen several "link lists" where one presumably pays to get listed. From what
I gather, they are domains someone has managed to scoop up. (Kind of unethical
IMO, I have such a domain they want $$$ for bugs the crap out of me to see it
as a link farm.)
I can't imagine anyone actually uses these link lists, apparently, they are for
google. Pay to get listed, with a few keywords.. your URL is "published" on these
spamholes.
I wonder if google detects these and gives such pages a lower score. I wish
search engines would do that, I think it'd help with the results. Do a lookup
on the respective domains name server (or whois or something) and if it's owned
by spamford & son, make it low. In a way that would be cool, except they'd probably
turn around and charge you to get "un-published".
I tried paid advertising once and got very few hits, the hits I did get were
mostly automated processes accessing the front page so they could make $$ off
of me. :-/ What a joke!

Because it needs quite some effort. It's like saying that the PageRank of
PHPbb is a flaw because (almost) every install links to the homepage, and
hence the high PR.
