Got my first Gregory Peck from Google today, for the Adsense ads.

OK, I won't be retiring just yet, but if I have pages getting viewed,
there's no harm putting these ads on them, get *some* return.

Interesting point. Some people think that carrying ads invites people to
leave your site, thus losing you a visitor. I used to think that too, but I
haven't noticed it with Adsense.

I had my busiest period of sales on one site after placing the ads. Purely
coincidental, but it does show that they don't have an adverse effect on
your normal business.

I guess people click on them when they are finished on your site, so you
would be losing them at that point anyway. In this case it is better to
have a visitor generating income as they leave!

I don't know if it has a negative effect or not. However, you can't assume
that you wouldn't have had even MORE sales...had the ads not been on your
site, just because you had your highest sales month ever.

Way down deep in the middle of the congo, Charles Sweeney and a hippo took an
apricot a guava and a mango. Stuck it with the others and he danced a dainty

I designed a site for a company in Sweden, they loved it, blah blah, and wanted
Adsense. Since the company (not sure if they're still around) was quite
specialist in Sweden (converyor belt repairs), there was only one other
competitor - who advertised on Adsense Smile

He he, potentially fun! You can configure the Adsense campaign to exlude
certain ads.

Yep, one of life's great mysteries! Like the woman who has used cream on
her face for thirty years, and has young-looking skin. Would she still have
had young-looking skin if she didn't use the cream?

I have been thinking about this, why does a person click on an ad, or any
other link out of your site?

I can think of two reasons:

1. They cannot find what they want on your site.

2. They *could* find what they wanted on your site, and have chosen to
leave via a link.

In the case of 1. Ads or no ads, they're going to walk away anyway, you
have already lost them.

In the case of 2. You have served them well, and they are leaving happily.

In both cases, carrying ads makes no difference to retaining them, or
hastening their departure.

I suppose the thing that worries most people, is the prospect of an ad or a
link, looking like a better option than their own site! If so, they may
have to rethink their service or offer, improve it.

If ads or links are complementary, but not in competition to your service,
then this is the best for all parties. It's a win win win situation for the
visitor and the webmasters.

They take a month to clear from here in Australia.

I've just paid the money to vbulletin, & I'm about to start a new forum with
adsense ads plastered all over.

I'm in Scotland, UK. My bank gives me cash for US Dollar checks, straight
away. Of course they still have to clear, but I don't care, I've got the
dough! Never had a problem with any of them anyway.

Funny enough, my bank is part of an Australian group!
