I'm using FrontPage 2003 to develop a web site with up to 100 pictures, most
will be about 100k with 2k thumb nails along with descriptions. I'd like to
find a host that has good performance and reasonable in price as this is a
personal project. I'm using SBC/Yahoo DSL but they don't provided the
service without a bunch of rules and advertising. And to get away from the
ads and rules costs a bunch. I've heard of some good sites but never paid
attention because I thought I had no need but now I do. Free is better if
it doesn't take over but low cost is OK.
tnx

If your content is static then pretty much any host will do. Linux
hosting is generally cheaper than Windows. (If you go with Linux, make
sure they have FrontPage extensions enabled).

Do you have any other requirements like the ability to do ASP pages?
Do you wish to have your own domain?

If you have your own domain, you might consider:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.webzpro.com" target="_blank">http://www.webzpro.com</a>

They have excellent service and the pricing is decent.

If you don't have your own domain, you'll need a host that offers
subdomains (sometimes called vanity domains). Example:
yourname.somehost.com

Hostingforabuck.com is also pretty cheap, and they offer cPanel, which
is nice:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.hostingforabuck.com/" target="_blank">http://www.hostingforabuck.com/</a>

I haven't used them, and I'd generally say you get what you pay for,
but the price and features are right. You'd have to ask them if they
allow vanity domains though.

Another good option is to use WHT's HostQuote:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php" target="_blank">http://www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php</a>

Enter what you need and hosts will get back to you with offers. I've
used it before and that's how I found WebzPro, which I'm very happy
with.

Good luck,
Daniel

We offer the same features and service as other hosters that charge up
to $15.00 a month for the features included in our "Buck A Month"

I can certainly recommend checking AffordableHost, Inc which offers free
hosting for up to two domains (you do need your own domain name, but can
get one from them or cheap with 1and1.com or ev1servers.net)... I'm not
saying they'll offer everything necessary on their free package, but can
do no harm to look and their customer support is available around 18 hrs
a day, pretty much every day (I know there were 4 days at Christmas when
family takes priority, I'm pleased to say!). See <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.affordablehost.com" target="_blank">www.affordablehost.com</a>

I was lucky enough to hit on a promotion from AH, 3 domains hosted for a
year, for US $ 0.01 (saving $ 83.99) and have no complaints Smile Peter M

Thanks to all who made recommendations to my query on web hosting. So far
I've received the names of about a dozen web hosters and the one I'm leaning
to is: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.powweb.com/" target="_blank">http://www.powweb.com/</a> My reasons for leaning toward them is that
for $7.77/mo they offer 2 Gigs of storage, 5 Gigs/day traffic (not month),
free domain, and search engine listing and other stuff that I don't know
about and don't know if I need. I'd like to know if anyone has used powweb
and what their experience has been? Also can anyone direct me to a site
hosted by powweb?
tnx
