I, for one, hate it when music comes out of my system's speakers when I
connect to a site that's not connected to the music industry. I like
music but when it comes "out of the blue" I rarely enjoy what they've
got playing. To me, music is acceptable when I find myself trapped,
like in an elevator, in a waiting room, or when I'm on hold. When I
hear music on a website I am reminded of those times and I click away
from that site in seconds.
Your company must have some idea of the image it wishes to project. How
will royalty free music help communicate this image? I'd say don't do
music, but if you must do it, make it an option to turn it on, don't
make music the default that can be turned off. A web site should not
annoy a potential customer.
But if you persist, do a Google search (for "music for your website")
and you'll find businesses like this:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mfwp101.com/music_design.htm" target="_blank">http://www.mfwp101.com/music_design.htm</a> Not free, but no royalties.
