Post subject: German Translation
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

We created a website for a client which required German translation.
Everything is working great as we
used real translators that knew English and German. I do have a couple of
problems though.

If you would, check out the Copyright & tradmark information at the bottom
of the page:

http://www.positecindustrial.com/German/Index.asp

geschützt... is displaying as... geschützt in the browser.

I am also seeing this happen in the ALT tags on the Our Products images on
the menu (Unsere Produkte)

The following is my DOCTYPE markup:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="de-DE " lang="de-DE ">
<head>
<META http-equic="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

You guys have any ideas?

Thank you
Rick Sweeney

he died many years ago.

Hmmm, taking a close look this change caused other problems. Question mark
and other symbols replacing text.

Hee hee. I was waiting to see how long it took Smile

This is because the copyright line at the bottom is encoded in UTF-8 and
the rest of the text is ISO-8859-1. You'll have to decide which encoding
you want to use and encode all of the text using that set. ISO-8859-1 is
undoubtedly easier to use, but UTF-8 allows you to use many character sets
without changing your page encoding.

My family call me Chuck sometimes.

My father and grandfather are/were Charles also. They're everywhere!

I'm in Scotland UK, btw. My recent family on the Sweeney side are
Scottish/Irish.
