Post subject: Frontpage Hitcounter error...
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I'm running a few web sites on my IIS 6.0 server. Their structures are:

wwwroot/site1
wwwroot/site2
wwwroot/site3

Each site has an index.htm startup page.

I added a FrontPage Hit Counter to the index.htm in site1 and it works with
no problems.

I tried the same thing to the index.htm in site2 and it takes a long time to
load and then finally shows the number "1". It never increments...I found
an index.htm file in wwwroot/site2/_vti_cnf and opened that up. Inside
there was an error that says: "This page contains a FrontPage Hit Counter
component that will not function properly until you publish your FrontPage
Web to a server"

I'm running FrontPage on the same PC that is serving the web pages. Site1
was created on the server in its home directory (didn't use FrontPage to
publish it, just locally edited it). Site2 was an older site that I copied
over from an archive. It used one of the free hit counters available on the
internet. I deleted the code for that and added the FrontPage Hit Counter.
But I can't get it to work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Make sure the IUSR_MACHINE NAME account has write permissions on the
_private folders of the web.
