Has anyone noticed that in IIS 6 you can no longer specify a path to a
default document? In IIS4 and IIS5 an administrator was able to specify a
path such as "directory1/default.htm" IIS6 no long allows this. Does
anyone know of a Registry hack or does anyone know of a way to enable this
ability for IIS6?

Thanks in advance.

Ideally you shuold pull your default.asp page to the webroot.
If your logic doesn't allow, change your metabasebase.xml

look for defaultdoc attribute in metabase xml.

Thanks,

That is a restriction in the UI, as a workaround, you can specify such paths
(and they work the same) directly in the metabase using adsutil/mdutil. Eg
adsutil set w3svc/1/root/path/DefaultDoc "directory1/default.htm"
We are currently trying to figure out whether the UI restriction makes
sense.
