Post subject: DNS Error/Page Cannot be displayed
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,

I have installed a web application on IIS 6.0 and Windows 2003. When I
try to open the application from the machine that runs the IIS server,
it works fine. However, I cannot seem to open the website from another
machine on the same domain. I get a 404/Page Cannot be Displayed/DNS
Error message.

Would appreciate any suggestions to debug this issue.

Regards,
Sandeep Madduri/

what application ? did you enable the web service extension ?
look at the iis log file. what's the sub status code ?

you can also open the IIS help file, expand to troubleshooting section. look
at some of the method to deal with 404.

Please post the web log entry that corresponds to the request that returns
"page cannot be displayed". If you cannot find a web log entry or httperr
log entry, then the problem probably is not with IIS.

Since it works on the local machine, my suspicion is that you have a
networking problem unrelated to IIS. You may have a firewall/proxy blocking
access, DNS of the server is not propagated correctly, etc -- all issues
external to IIS.

Hi,

In addition to what others have already said, you could try to access the
website using the IP. If it works, then the problem is related to DNS, and
you should contact your DNS administrator.

Good Luck!
