I ran across a local article
[http://www.businesspulse.com/businesspulse/bp2003/aug/0803bpfswebdesign
..html] and had to check these guys out. I had to check out their
portfolio at http://www.iocreative.com/ and they blew me away. I
checked their source and now my head hurts.

We may be a bunch of weirdos up here in the North Sound, but some of us
are even talented weirdos.

A little streamlining will reduce wind resistance.
Without it, things can be lost in a flash.

LOL
I did have to enable activex to go anywhere on their sites. Too flashy
for my tastes but I feel like a goon in comparison.

We're Bellinghamsters %^) Legend has it that Bellingham smells like ham
because of a mix of the pulp mill, rotted newspapers and mouse turds in
Old Town, and 75,000 sticks of incense burning in unison.

It could be the BCBud ...

Great stuff Judy! A fine example of a good, clean fast informative site that
demonstrates the validity of using tables for layout and client side
scripting for useful effects.

And I note that it is not a one off. All the sites in their portfolio have
that nice clean functional look and present in a way other methods just
cannot match Smile<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I have a confession to make. I've finally figured out how to convert
one of my sites to css but I'm very fond of tables, when done correctly,
to layout my pages. I still don't get positioning so I'll wait for that
step until I know what I'm doing. I'm really not a turncoat ... I just
won't admit it's beyond my capability and I will persevere.

It seems the older I get, the harder I learn Sad

All unique ... they've got a good team going there. I've seen a few of
them around town but don't know any of them.

Networking in Whatcom County is an interesting adventure ... we've grown
up since 1995 and our compuserve accounts. I'm a little amazed at the
number of folks who stuck out the dot.com bust ... some of them have
evolved but many of them are as folksy as ever. I guess that's where my
style comes from and why my sites are stuck in the '90s which was a pale
version of the '60s round these parts.

I spent a lot of time working on that stuff - got several sites developed
without the use of tables - just to see what could be done and a bit like
you - I guess, trying to see if I could do it.

OK I did it - site layout using css only, no js or tables etc. BUT went back
to tables because
1.They are quick and easy
2. They do the job
3. Cross browser compatable
4. Less likely to degrade
5. Enable a site to look the same in any browser.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yeah. Those are my excuses, too %^)

Okay ... I may have to leave AWW permanently after this but here's the
site I was talking about. I finally got the external stylesheet the way
I want it and the tables [width="760"] work good with the two column
method in resolution lower than 800x600.

Only a partial front page and all linked pages under construction ...
but it validates and looks the way I intended. I've used alot of the
advice I've read in this group to transition from that folksy style to a
more aesthetic approach.

Comments are welcome, flames are expected.

I don't see an external stylesheet referenced by that page, but there is one
in the <head>

looks fine, but you might want to tone down the mustard or darken the text

 > Comments are welcome, flames are expected.

;o)

<font color=purple> > <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.bellinghamsters.com/</font" target="_blank">http://www.bellinghamsters.com/</font</a>>

There's nothing on that page which needs tables for layout.

Consider giving the classes more meaningful names - it will be easier to
manage as the site grows.
