A client has spotted that part of their website has been duplicated on
another site without their permission. How can I ascertain who their ISP is
in order to make a complaint please? whois only gives me the registrant's
info.

Have you tried sending a polite email to the site owner, requesting the
material be removed from their server?

A few thieft issues have been solved that way in this group.

If they don't agree, then you take legal action. Providing you can prove
the material was yours originally.

This is the best first step.

It happened to me once, but they just used some of my images.

I simply emailed the webmaster via the "Contact Us" link on their website and indicated that they
were my copyright images and would they please remove them or I would be taking 'legal action'.

He removed the images almost immediately and said that they had been emailed to him by the website
'owner' so he was unaware they were my copyright.

The simple way *may* well be the easy way for you as well :~)

you could have a look to see what the domain name servers are which are
usually supplied with the domain rego goodies. may take a while to track
the upstream host. (if you want to go that far)

you could submit the domain name to spamcop which returns the upstream.

you could post a url so someone here can perform the ancient mystical
chants required to appease the gods to surrender the information.

An email has been sent to the contact address requesting that they remove
the copyright material. Actually, they not only copied the entire page from
my client's site, which consisted of my prose and his picture, but included
the copyright notice from the original site as well!! Taking the p*ss or
what?

lol @ brucie - I had trouble like this once, I had to go onto the WhoIs
directory and search the domain name, through this I found their WebHost and
contacted them...it was down with 48-hours.

I dont know if that will help, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks,
Jeremy
