I like to play around with graphics. There's some really neat
GENERATORS on the internet to make all kinds of graphics and stuff
like that.

The problem is, often after you have used the generator to create the
graphic, you are unable to SAVE it as a file. Sometimes you can, but
more often than not the only way you can use it is to copy down these
CODES.

What is the purpose of using these CODES? Why wouldn't you be able to
save it simply as a file to do what you want with?

Thanks in advance

DAVID

PS: Again... why not be able to save the created graphic as a animated
gif, jpg. or even a flash file where you can save it for future use in
whatever way you want to.

Well you've not explained WHAT software you are talking about so, it's
anyones guess.

Hi... Thanks. It's not any particular SOFTWARE that I'm talking about
here. It is about these sites that have GRAPHICS for use on websites
such as MySpace and personal sites that you may have.

They have these GENERATORS where you can create a graphic, maybe a
gliiter graphic, scrolling message etc... Sometimes they have neat
little animated graphics that are for use on websites.

The problem is, often you cannot just RIGHT CLICK/SAVE them to your
PC. They will say in order to use these on your site, to copy and
insert the CODE.

My question is, why do you need CODES? If I wanted to generate a neat
little graphic wouldn't it make sense for me to save it to my own PC
so I have it for anything I might want to do with it? Why the
emphasis on CODES?

I hope I made some sense here.

Thanks

DAVID

It's kind of complicated as you're not talking about a specific
instance - however often it's like this: They are hosting the image
for you, or the image is generated on the fly as it is requested. The
"code" is used to place this inside your MySpace, and links back to
their server. It could also track the usage of the graphic created
with their tool, and other information required for it to work
correctly. It's not straight forwards... it's a bit like asking
someone "why do you need gas to drive a car?".

Thanks... I think I understand now. It used to be, awhile back, that
you could go to different sites and just take their grpahics that they
offered you. And... they used to tell you DO NOT LINK TO THIS SITE or
DO NOT LINK TO THIS IMAGE... if you want the image, SAVE IT TO YOUR
OWN PC. Supposedly... LINKING created lots of congestion on their
servers, or so that's what they used to say.

Now... I guess they encourage you to link to their site for
advertising and tracking purposes. Times have certainly changed.

Thanks for all of the input. Smile

Such as?

You're not really helping us to help you, here.

It's probably javascript that's pulled from their site. If so, then
there isn't a simple file that you can download to your computer in the
first place.

Because it's their stuff, and they have the right to decide how you use
it. Mostly, these are organisations that make their money by driving
traffic to their site, and by giving away free stuff (such as MySpazz
layouts) they get free advertising in return.
