sorry.

free is good, if you can stand ads, cheap is better than expensive if your
going to pay for it though.

what free ones would you recommend then? ive always had problems with them,
in the past. either they offered too little space, or the ones that offered
a lot of space just randomly seemed to delete my site.

There are plenty of free webhosts some of which don't force ad's. If you
want to know them, this is a great newsgroup to be at.
You pay for what you get, that's true enough but as poster has said this is
for free webhosts, not cheap. Many that read this newsgroup will just want
to set up and maintain a website for free so, however cheap it is, it may
not tempt them to purchase paid for services. You would get more people
interested if you try alt.paidwebhosting or alt.webhosting. Good luck.

How "little" is "too little" ? I've seen people ask for silly amounts of
space or monthly traffic, or other expectations (MySQL, PHP) in this NG.

If one *needs* lots of space, or traffic, or other features, I'd suggest a
person *pays* if only because they then have a contract with a hosting firm
and can expect their needs to be met. However, when it comes to posts which
are made to advertise paid-for services, I have little tolerance. In a few
instances I do suggest someone look for paid hosting, when I feel they're
asking for too much for free, and some might say that is wrong. I offer
hosting but never advertise it here, and just keep an eye out for some
of the off-topic posts advertising paid hosting, and offer sugggestions
when I can think of a free hosting solution that meets the need. Peter.

thanks for the info you two.

when i posted this ad i didnt know much about newsgroups, and have learned
what i think is enough to make sure i dont do it again.

i agree with you, peter. with the free hosting sites ive used, ive found
that they offer what is "too much" to be free, either the amount of space,
or the services, and find my account being deleted or the whole hosting
company being closed down because of it.

im sure there are better ones, you just have to be careful and make sure you
have backups.

i recently got my first paid-for hosting plan through D.I.Y. web hosting and
found that there was a LOT i wasnt getting with the free plans.....though
also a lot of it is not what i personally need, though a few may.

i would also like to know what your URL is for your hosting company.

i dont think it counts as an ad, if im asking for it, either. =)

But I didn't say that - I asked what you thought was "too little", and
my other comment was about people (posting here, wanting too much for
nothing, IMO). As one example of free hosting with no banner ads,
www.portland.co.uk offers 15 MB of web space. Also mentioned here by
its owner is staghosting (I don't know the details of web space or the
monthly traffic limit, if any, sorry).

I see long lists of features and know that few are needed for most of
my clients, so I offer a number of basic accounts (no FrontPage, no
databases, no domain parking, no mail lists, no need for silly "bells
and whistles").

>i would also like to know what your URL is for your hosting company.

I have no need for new clients at this time, thanks.
