1 and 1 pissed me off because I found out they submitted me to a
collection agency so now I am forced to pay the agency's fee and the
renewal fee.

I wasn't aware of the default auto renew feature. I am one of the people
who doesn't read pages of terms and conditions.

So if they are unable to autocharge your credit card and you do not pay or
cancel within 30 days, they will happily give your account to a collection
agency. I mean they do this on day 31.

I did receive the invoice but no where in it they mentioned that if they
don't get paid, they do the collection thing. Plus I haven't heard from the
collection agency and no warnings that my account is overdue.

This whole thing is annoying because a lousy unpaid $6.99 can potentially
put a red mark on your credit report/history.

I subscribed to many auto renewal services which I let lapse but no one
"forced" me to pay them or else I go to a collection agency. I am OK with
auto renewal practices but to endanger my credit score with no hesitation
is not good practice.

I hate this practice from them so much that I will pay all the fees and
transfer
to another registrar even though I am paying 1&1 for a year from now. I
will not do business with them anymore.

Their FAQ page doesn't mention this practice. The rep on the phone
suggested to send a suggestion to their suggestion email. That email
address is not on their home page, FAQ or contact page. Screw them.

This is my personal opinion and I don't believe GoDaddy does this thing.

I recommend you avoid Demon.

(Or try demon.service and search on "accounts".)

Yeah but when you pay so little for hosting renting a phone line for a
home costs $30 a month *not including calls or anything* that's just
for line rental. So $16 / 20 per month for hosting is not a lot of
money.
BTW 1And1's T and C doc does cover payment (view section 3.1 and 3.2.

The T&C doesn't mention anything about them using collection agencies if
they can't auto charge your credit card.

My post was a warning to the public about their business practices.
What was the benefit of your stupid comment?

So? If you don't pay me, I'm not going to warn you like a child. I'll
send you to collections after 30 days and tack on an annoyance fee.

In addition to making me laugh as well, she brought the merchant's
viewpoint to it. If you dont' read terms and conditions, you lose
a lot of entitlement to bitch.

Lame that 1&1 is so quick to sell their debt to collections. Doesn't
seem like a smart thing for them to do PR wise, or unless they own teh
collection agency, revenue wise either.

Well I guess you don't mind running a business which doesn't care if it
irritates its customers without doing any extra step to alleviate it.
Yeah.. send a few emails is a major annoyance and headache. No wonder
people complain about sucky customer service. Looks like some business
owners promote it just to get some extra $. No regard to bad PR or their
reputation. Pretty short sighted.

Your doctor sends you reminders if you don't pay on time. I bet you will
not be happy of your doctor's office hands your account to a collection
agency after just 30 days. I know they can but why do they send you 30
day.. then 60 day.. then 90 day notices?

AND I am not talking about not paying your bill for a service ALREADY
provided. That's their right. 1and1's case is about failing to autocharge
your credit card for a FUTURE service which I haven't used yet. Then
mention this fact in the T&C. Tell the world that you'll do anything to get
your $6.99.

I ran a business where if a customer doesn't pay for FUTURE ongoing
service, I send out at least two gentle reminders. After that I suspend the
account. Then after ALL THAT, I close the account. I NEVER use collection
agencies and I don't customers like children.

What's your business name so I can avoid it? I want to avoid all companies
who happily send customers to collection agencies because they couldn't
auto charge credit cards to extend the service.

[Todd H, AffordableHost customer from days of yore bites tongue about
how to irritate customers. The answer involves incompetent Canadians
though.]

Look at her email address. She owns the joint and does a reasonably
good job of it by most accounts.

They're probably not too worried about irritating deadbeats.

<q>

I subscribed to many auto renewal services which I let lapse but no one
"forced" me to pay them or else I go to a collection agency.

Habitual deadbeats, either.

Do you really want to do business with a business owner who just mentioned
the above? A child? Annoyance fee? Is this a business owner who cares about
her customers? Customers who are late in their payments are annoyance and
it's ok to screw with them and charge them? and she gets it wrong. I wasn't
talking about past service.. it's about future service.

I wonder if she discloses how much the annoyance fee is. I can't see it:
