Post subject: Alternatives to WorldPay? (UK)
Archived from groups: alt>ecommerce (more info?)

Hi,

I tried to get an account with WorldPay in order to sell a product on the
web, but after credit rating my UK limited company, WorldPay wanted one
month's turnonver upfront as their "fixed reserve" (this is in addition to
their normal policy of holding payments for 4 weeks). This seems strange as
I thought WorldPay charged higher commision than a standard merchant account
because they shouldered some of the risk themselves and did not require a
deposit. Anyway...

What alternatives are there for a small UK company? I don't want to use
PayPal/NoChex because of the registration delay (the item I am selling is
over their no-registration limit). I guess I am going to hit the same
problem as I did with WorldPay if I try to apply for a merchant account, so
it would have to be someone that doesn't require one - I'm prepared for the
higher commision rates.

Many thanks,

Steve

What registration delay? Nochex is immediate as far as I know - the
only downside being items over £100? require the customer to sign up
for an account.

That's what I mean - the item sells for £180 so it can mean up to 3 days
delay for people without a NoChex account. Plus the common opinion (right or
wrong) that a site that only takes NoChex/PayPal payments is small fry - yes
I am small fry, but I don't want to give out that impression Wink NoChex is a
great service and excellent value, and I will resort to it if I have to, but
I'd prefer something else.

FWIW, I've now got a Barclays Bank account via their www.ePDQ.co.uk
service - they still require 4 weeks deferred payment but no deposit
required up front.

Might want to check with Lloyds cardnet as they rarely request
deferred payment.

Many thanks for the tip. I'll give them a try.

Hi Steve,

Are you selling software? The reason I'm asking is because a lot of
alternatives are only available if you sell software/ebooks
